The technical stuff
The markup on this site is minimal.
It contains only content and semantics, and conforms to the XHTML 1.0 Strict standard.
All the layout is achieved through the use of CSS stylesheets which conform to the CSS standard.
Text is resizeable using standard browser controls, and the site is useable if dull even if stylesheets are disabled.
DOM scripting and Ajax are used to enhance the behaviour and to some extent the look and feel of the website, but it follows the standards guidelines for the unobtrusive use of Javascript, and the site works OK if you disable it.
I use the very elegant jQuery library.
