Following the success of the first three years, Jack Stocken restarts his bridge courses in Harrogate on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th September 2010; and by popular demand Jack is delighted to host two bridge courses for the first time in Helmsley, starting on Monday 27th September.

All courses last eight consecutive weeks, cost £120 and no partner is needed. If you have to miss a class or two, then these can be made up the following term (restarts late January 2011).

You can book and pay for these courses online or by post – details at the foot of the page.

Beginners' Course

Helmsley: every Monday 11.15am to 12.45pm starting 27th September 2010

Harrogate: every Wednesday 6.30pm to 8pm starting 29th September 2010

This really does mean beginner; it's either for people who have never touched a playing card in their lives or for those who learnt in the distant past. Starting from scratch and learning at a gentle pace throughout the eight weeks, the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment, although you will be given clear notes at the end of each class.

Intermediate Course

Helmsley: every Monday 1pm to 2.45pm starting 27th September 2010

Harrogate: every Tuesday 1pm to 2.45pm starting 28th September 2010

Harrogate: every Wednesday 6.15pm to 8pm starting 29th September 2010

Aimed at those who already play bridge and need bringing up to date with the modern game, or for those who are just rusty, this course covers all basic aspects of the game. This course includes the Rule of 20, SQOT, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", Double and playing tricky No Trump contracts. Learning bridge has never been such fun.

Intermediate Play

Harrogate: every Wednesday 10.45pm to 12.30pm starting 29th September 2010

This course will be ideal for those who have completed the Intermediate course and need to consolidate their bidding technique whilst at the same time improving their declarer play and defence.

Intermediate Plus

Harrogate: every Tuesday 11am to 12.45pm starting 28th September 2010

This course follows on from the Intermediate Play course. It includes Stayman, Losing Trick Count, Rules of 7 and 11, Signals and Discards and more. As always, the set hands will test your card play! You should have already taken the Intermediate course.

NEW: Advanced Course

Harrogate: every Tuesday 6.15pm to 8pm starting 28th September 2010

Harrogate: every Wednesday 1pm to 2.45pm starting 29th September 2010

The Advanced course will be ideal for experienced social bridge players or those who are starting to enjoy the challenge and excitement of Duplicate Bridge. Fourth Suit Forcing and the UCB are two very useful conventional bids and will keep you going until Transfers and Roman Keycard Blackwood in 2011!

Supervised Play sessions

Harrogate: every Tuesday 3pm to 5pm starting 28th September 2010

Imagine playing relaxed rubber bridge with your friends in your living room, able to ask advice from a friendly, expert supervisor. That is exactly what we aim to provide. No booking is necessary, so come to as many as you like and no partner is necessary. £5 per hour.

Gentle Duplicate

Harrogate: every Wednesday 3pm to 5.15pm starting 29th September 2010

Aimed at those who have completed the Intermediate course and above, Gentle Duplicate is a great way to improve one's game as there is no help from Jack and the hands are all random. He will however, run through any tricky hands in the last twenty minutes. This session is ideal for those who have completed a course and would rather practice than commit to another eight-week course. No booking or partner necessary, so come to as many as you like. £8 per session.
